  • Rangers and volunteers try to control a wildfire in Cerro de la Virgen, 20km northeast from Cherán,  on April 15th, 2013. The wildfire, that started on saturday April 13th, has consumed more than 100 hectares  (247 acres).  Cherán township, located in the purépecha plateau of Michoacán, started a battle against loggers linked to criminal groups on April 15th, 2011, when purépecha people placed barricades. Loggers devastated around 10 thousand hectares from the 21 thousand that conform the plateau. / Guardabosques y voluntarios intentan apagar  un incendio forestal en el Cerro de la Virgen, a 20 km al nororiente de Cherán el 15 de abril de 2013.   • Members of a cooperative in Amanalco, Estado de México, created the Unión de Ejidos Forestales Emiliano Zapata in 1981, which has permitted  them to develop their own territorial planning and a plan for the forest management for its use and conservation.   • One morning in october 2009, the forest hill called Tierra de Algodón, in Cochoapa el Grande, woke up in flames. It was a reprisal by illegal loggers against the na´savi indigenous peoples after they decided to protect the pine forest.
